New Euralarm Position Paper on revision of EN 50518
The in-depth review of the EN 50518 standard is an opportunity to evaluate the current categorisation of ARCs that is based on the typology of events handled by the ARC.
The current version of the standard (EN 50518:2019/A1:2023) establishes two categories, defining more demanding requirements for intrusion detection and access control alarms and lowering them for fire detection or social alarm systems.
Considering that an ARC can not only be the target of attacks aimed at stealing information to commit thefts, Euralarm supports the transition towards a definition of categories based on the risk of the installation protected by the alarm system, rather than the typology of the event.
In this way, we believe that we would contribute more effectively to the goal of achieving a safer Europe for all, by enhancing the protection of its citizens against potential environmental or terrorist attacks.
